Musical scholar Dr. Otto Henry takes on a new challenge in his new book, wherein he explores an unfamiliar area that has not been tackled by his colleagues. It was in the summer of 1972 when Otto Henry, a musicologist in his third year at East Carolina University, spontaneously accepted an invitation to accompany a few of his anthropologist friends on a journey to the beautiful and wondrous island of Malta in the Mediterranean. His friends were there to finish their study on local folk music in the island. During his stay, Dr. Otto Henry ventured on his own study about the local church bells that rang from their stone towers all day long and partly through the night. He discovered that they were bells that were rung to signal every kind of special event in the town's history--times of day, seasons, religious services and occasions, and so on. Through the words of Dr. Otto Henry, readers will also see for themselves the significance and stories of those wonderful bells and their golden tones.
